Mixed Media Bug Diagrams

  • Students will be able to create a diagram by labeling different parts of a bug 

  • Students will be able to recognize multiple times or diagrams through discussion

Steps

Day One

  • Explain

    • Go over different diagrams

    • Go over why diagrams are important

    • Go over different bug body parts

    • Have students pick a bug and sketch out their diagram in the planning sheet

  • Clean up

    • Have students put their names on their planning sheets

    • Have students put materials away

    • Collect planning sheets in a pile

Day Two

  • Explain

    • Review diagrams and what the students started last class

  • Demonstration

    • Draw out the bug in pencil

    • Collage a few sections of the bug

  • Clean up

    • Throw away scraps

    • Put materials away

    • Collect work in a pile

Day Three

  • Explain

    • Review what students worked on last class

  • Demonstration

    • Show students how to add watercolor around their collaged pieces

    • Sharpie over everything they’ve done

  • Work time

  • Clean up

    • Have students put the paint away and clean brushes

    • Work goes on the drying rack

Modifications

  • Have an already filled out diagram worksheet for a student if needed
